Iron And Steel

Quicklime is used extensively as a flux in purifying steel in the traditional basic oxygen furnace (BOF) and the newer electric arc furnace (EAF) and in the secondary refining. It is highly effective in eliminating impurities such as silica (Si), phosphorus (P) and sulphur (S).

In the wire drawing of Steel Production, Hydrated Lime is acting as a lubricant as the steel rods or wires are drawn through dies. And in pig and stag casting, lime whitewash coating on the molds prevents sticking and provide temporary corrosion protection. Hydrated Lime is also help to neutralise sulphuric acid in coke by-product plants.
